Age Ratings

Today we had watched the film "Gremlins" the reason for this is because during the time it was released, warner bros had released it as a PG and when it had got moved to Europe the BBFC had wanted it to be a 15 because of the way it looked to dark to be a happy, family christmas film. The reason it need became a 12 (Which would of been the better choice) was because back in the 80s they never had a 12 Rating which meant it was a lot harder to choose between 15 and PG.

So when we had watched it we was asked to give our own rating and why it was that rating, using the 80s way (which was NO 12 RATING). I think that this film would have to be a 15 because at the start the video is very PG like, using a lot of happy people and funny child like jokes, when more "Mogwai" (which is what the gremlins are called) started appearing it started to get darker and darker and once they had changed into the Gremlin creatures it started to become a very horror type film, using scenes where they were creatures where getting blended and microwaved and there was a lot of gun use during the middle and end.

One thing that got a lot of hassle was when, during the end when the main girl and boy character was alone in a police station, she was talking about why she didn't like christmas, she went on about how her father was not there for christmas and that they couldn't find him after, they had then found him dead in a chimney, now this isnt the reason why people where going crazy the reason was after when she said "and thats how I found out there was no santa claus" this made people (parents mostly) crazy because the film was rated PG it meant that parents would take there kids (which some of them most likely believed in santa) and then they had to watch someone say that he wasnt real.
