Location Recce

Location Recce:

What is it?
*A location recce is a checklist of all the this you need to do or bring to the location when you go, for example, a student ID so that not only does the owner of the land or building know its you but then if someone comes along they know that you are a student and just making a student film. These are the categories that come with one:
Things to take: Which is what you will need to bring
Talking to people: which is all the things you need to talk to with either the owner of someone else
Transport/Access: which is how you will get there and what you will need to get
Camera/Lighting: This is so that you know what to film
Sound: this is so that you can prevent any bad sounds
Things for director: These are the things the director needs for when they film
Food/Accommodation: This is so that your cast and crew and somewhere to sleep and eat

Why would you use it:
you would use it so that you have a understanding of what to bring and what to remember so that you don't go there and forget something that you needed to bring the most.

Most Important things for recce:

*Things to take - All f the things in this category are important because without these stuff there is no point going there because most of them involve actually getting shots and the rest are so that you can go there.

*Talking to people - The most important things for this is copyright issues so that you don't get something in the shot that you cant get and lastly Availability and timing because so that you know how long you have there and when you are available to go.

*Transport/Access - Some important things for this is Toilets because if you didn't have a toilet there and they needed to go then you would have to leave the area and finish earlier than you should have, Risk of trespass so that you are not on someone else's land that you haven't asked and Safety and hazardous environment so that you are not risking injury with yo cast and crew.

*Camera/Lighting - One of the important things is the sun position because if you don't know where the sun is when filming it might not look the same as you imagined it in pre-production because the character might be blacked out, another one would be power supply because if you don't have enough power on, for example, your camera then when filming you camera could run out of battery and you would have to either take hour going back and charging it or just end the entire day and being a day behind on filming, Lastly, checking your cables is a very important thing because if you just leave loads of cable all over the place the actor or one of the crew members could injure themselves.

*Sound - An important one for sound would be traffic/roadwork because in this generation everyones got cars so when filming there will be cars around so you need to find a good way to avoid the camera or boom from hearing it. for example, paying for area so that you can shut down the road area. Another good one would be schools because if you are in an area near a school or one that is like a couple of blocks away the kids can be very load causing you to stop filming, so you would need to make sure you avoid that over wise it may not suit the mood of your film.

*Things for Director - A very important one for this would be to take photo's for the director because if you don't the director is not going to know what his location looks like from the angles he needs (the shots in that scene). Another example for an important thing on this would be Background because say, for example, you are doing a zombie film you wouldn't want a park full of people in the background so you would have to do something to avoid that.

*Food/Accommodation - There are only two Things on this list but they are very important because when it comes to food you need to make sure that everyone had eaten otherwise you either get a bunch of hungry cast and crew which will make them get a little angry or they may not come back to another film with you, lastly, hotels would be very important because say if you are filming some far away from there houses then you would have to make sure they are staying somewhere and not on the streets.

Copyright and Log Lines

Copyright:
In todays class we talked about copyright and some claims that have happened.
We started by looking at a couple of short films and featured film and seeing what kind of copyright claim they had against them, some were that they had a false brand on or they used music that was not suppose to be there.

Log lines:
We then learnt about log line's and what they were. Then we had to pick a mainstream film and write our own log lines on that.

What are Log lines's
Log lines are a very short but very clear description of the film/TV, for example, the short description that you get when you click the film on sky.

My Log line on "I am Legend":
An Action packed Thriller of a man and a dog surviving they way through a city full of mutated people and coming through an unexpected turn of events.

We then learnt about a famous screen writer who always used the same template with his films and they always seemed to work.

Log line Template:
On the verge of (insert a bad thing here), a (Flawed Hero) has (Big thing happens) and (story set-up). But when (Story middle Happens) he/she must learn (the awful thing that will happen if they fail).

Treatment

What is a Treatment?

A treatment comes after the proposal stage (if they ask you to develop it) these are the things you have to talk about:

* Make sure you have an indication of the content and size of your product

*An Initial Script/Storyline 

*The amount it is going to cost for production

*The idea of the personnel Involved in the project 

*Any research that has happened 

When writing it make sure you put these things in:

Introduction:

This is a short opening paragraph explain what you have wrote about in your original proposal and what you will do to develop it. this will be the thing to sell your idea.

Outline Script:

This should be the section where you will explain your story scene by scene and in as much detail as you can so that they can understand what is going on.

Outline Budget:

This is where you will tell them what the budget requirements that you need. when putting this make sure you put a realistic budget for the product also make sure you use a real example of equipment hire.

Talent:

Who is doing what, mention the actors that will be in this.

Production Staff:

This is where you will explain who is working in this project breakdown.

Contingency:

Things can go wrong, so in this you will explain if you have any back up (say if an actor is ill and you need to replace them with a similar person).

Research:

Include any conducted research that you have made.

Treatment:

Introduction

In the Proposal we talked about what the story was and that its about a guy who goes to a restaurant with his girlfriend and as they are eating the ex comes in and it creates this very intense and funny situation. to develop the idea i will start advancing the script and create some funny situation, that will include getting some funny actors that can act very well it that situation.

Outline Script

The scene starts with the man and woman walking into the restaurant all happy and in love, when they sit down and order they start to laugh a lot with how weird the guy is, after a couple of talking scene the guy looks over and sees that his ex girlfriend has just entered the restaurant with her new boyfriend.

When she sits down and order the guy starts to panic and then runs into the toilets, when arrived he then starts to call his friend to ask him how he should get out, the first suggestion his friend makes is climbing out the windows so as he climb's out a dog starts going to attack him so he squeezes himself back in as fast as he can, when he ends the call and comes back onto the table he is then to think of another idea, he then starts telling his girlfriend that he's ill but the girlfriend doesn't believe him and makes him stay. After a while of him panicking he then starts begging his girlfriend to leave and he then tells her why, she then slaps him and starts shouting at him, he then becomes extremely panicked and runs out the restaurant but as he reaches the door the staff grab him and start singing happy birthday whilst bringing him back to his seat to give him the cake, but then his girlfriend grabs him and throws his head on the cake and walks out, when he gets up he goes over to the ex but it turns out it isn't the ex but just some random woman that looks like her he then starts to get a bit happier and walks out, as he leaves the restaurant he then bumps into someone and as he goes to say sorry he finds out its his ex.

Outline Budget

For the budget, We are going to try and hire a room for free so that we can use it for the restaurant scene, but if not the price range to normally hire a room for this situation would cost up to £40 - £100 depending on the building you use. When it comes to filming equipment the college will supply the camera's, boom, lighting etc. When it comes to Actors we will get the actors from getting either friends, family or people in the college so there will be no worry for paying them, we will bring food and beverages.

Talent

In this Short film we will only really need 3 Main Characters and thats, the man, the girlfriend and the ex girlfriend. There will be a few extra's, including the Ex's boyfriend. To get the main characters we will either ask the Performing arts group if anyone wants to do it or we will just get some confident friends to play the parts and when it comes to extra's we will just get as many people as we can to do it.

Production Staff:
On this project we have a range of different people, there is our group of four, we have some actors that will come in and we are getting help from the college.

Contingency:
There are only a few things that could actually go wrong in this project, Firstly, We go over our hired time and have to leave and to sort that we will make sure we get it done by getting people to work harder. Secondly, The batteries in the camera could run out, but to sort that we will make sure we have a few extra battery packs lying around so that we can just swap when finished. Lastly, some of the actors may get injured and to stop that we would have to make sure we a backup actor.

Research:

I have been researching on good places to film and they are in good distance of the college location and would be easy to get it there and film.

Story

Its about a Man who goes out for his 2^nd date with his new girlfriend at an expensive restaurant, after talking for a while the guys ex girlfriend walks in the exact restaurant with her new boyfriend, the bad side to this is that when he dumped he didn’t tell her why and he didn’t do it nicely (he did it by Facebook) so the guy is trying to get out without getting caught, but after almost causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and getting dumped he finds out that it is not his girlfriend, but as he walks out it ends with his ex bumping into him.

Act 1

Man walks in with girlfriend and starts to talk and charm, but then suddenly the ex girlfriend walks in and makes man panic.

Act 2

After ex walking in he spends the entire time trying to get out of the restaurant but every time he tries something keeps happening to bring him back, for example, as he tries to get out the public toilets a huge dogs comes out and starts trying to attack him so he climbs back in.

Act 3

After causing a lot of damage in the restaurant and getting dumped by his girlfriend he finds out that the woman is not his ex but just someone who looks like her, after the panic he starts to walk out the restaurant all happy until he opens the door and gets bumped by someone as he turns around he finds out its his actual ex.

What is a proposal?
Proposal's are where the person who wrote the idea of the story goes to someone like a producer and pitch's there idea to them using a proposal (in like a slideshow or letter)

Characters

Boy – A normal person who just two weeks ago dumped his previous girlfriend, but instead of being to much in love and waiting for a while to start loving gain he ends up getting his new girlfriend on the same day. He’s a nice, witty person.

Ex girlfriend – She’s was a every day in love girls with her boyfriend until he dumped her and not only did he tell her on Facebook without a reason but he then got a girlfriend on the same day which made her very angry with him and made it so that he is to scared to even see her.

When it comes to equipment and actor’s we will be working with the college to supply these things, but to make it a film look I would hopefully to rent out a restaurant and film there so that it looks a bit more professional.
